Honeybee Vaccine Offers Hope

Administered to a hive’s Queen Bee through an edible sugary solution that honeybees are attracted to (thus needle free), a new vaccine is being tested to protect the flying pollinators from microbial diseases. If this technology can be adapted to tackle other afflictions the bees face, it might just be one solution to save the rapidly declining population. The product, PrimeBEE, is based on new information about insects—and it’s already providing more than a glimmer of hope as bees pollinate one-third of food in the United States.
