Gianfranco Zola has told Álvaro Morata to leave his anxiety on the sidelines and deal with the pressure of being Chelsea’s centre-forward because he is “not playing for Southampton or Brighton”. Morata, who joined from Real Madrid in 2017 for £60m, has scored seven goals this season but appeared riddled with self-doubt.
Zola, the assistant manager, said Olivier Giroud, Pedro and Willian will not play against Nottingham Forest in Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Stamford Bridge because of injuries while Eden Hazard will be rested, which suggested that Morata, as one of the last men standing, will start.
