Last week I explored the Byron Bay scene in Australia, but this week I’ve moved onto their lovely neighbor, New Zealand! This is one place that’s been on my travel wish list for way too long, and sadly, I’ve only been able to stop over in their airport for a connecting flight to Sydney. But even those few hours in the terminal made an impression on me. Airports are usually not calming environments by any means, but all the greenery outside the windows and the significantly mellower energy of the people and environment there reminded me of Hawaii, which is just my kinda pace!
A few months ago, I stumbled across a photo of the dreamiest cane chair and managed to track down the makers, Douglas and Bec in New Zealand. Shortly after, I discovered Erena Tepaa’s dreamy home on Instagram, and that just sent me down a research rabbit hole of the island nation’s creative scene. While my picks are certainly not representative of New Zealand’s design scene as a whole, here are a few photos that really resonated with me and are giving me plenty of inspiration! There’s something about the color palette of sand, coral and mossy greens, and the rolling shapes and dried grass textures that remind me of its natural beauty and otherworldly topography. Here’s hoping I get to experience it first hand some day!
cheers, ezz.
