IGP praises Mahsud tribe sacrifices

WANA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Salahuddin Mahsud has said that Mahsud tribe rendered great sacrifices in the war against terrorism.Speaking at a jirga during his private visit to South Waziristan Agency, he said that the Mahsud tribe was the worst affected during the operation Rah-e-Nijat. He added that the tribal elders had held a meeting with him and informed him of their problems. The IGP said the security forces had reduced the checkposts in South Waziristan, adding that the situation could deteriorate if all the checkposts were abolished simultaneously.He added that the core issues were being addressed after close coordination between the tribal elders and security forces. The provincial police chief said that Rs400,000 compensation for the destroyed houses in South Waziristan was not sufficient and suggested an increase in the amount to enable the tribespeople to rebuild homes.Inspector General of Frontier Corps Major General Abid Latif and other senior military and civil officers, including Political Agent Sohail Khan, were also present on the occasion. The tribal elders also addressed the jirga and lauded the role of Salahuddin Mahsud's father and grandfather for the wellbeing of the people of the area.
