BAHAWALPUR: Three members of a family were killed in an accident near Sadiqabad Bypass on Saturday.A family was on his way when a truck loaded with flour hit their car and fell on it. Resultantly, Ahsanul Haq, a resident of Gulshan Iqbal, Rahimyar Khan, his wife Fatima and son Abdul Rehman were killed on the spot while another car rider was critically injured. He was shifted to a hospital.IUB guards torture varsity students: The Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) security guards on Saturday allegedly tortured the varsity students on the main entrance of the Baghdadul Jadeed campus for not taking parking token on Friday night.The university security guards also took the students to their check-post where they allegedly again beat them. The students said that the guards allegedly used to torture them. They alleged that this practice was being carried out under the supervision of chief security officer Ejaz. When contacted, IUB Public Relations Deputy Registrar Khalid Shahzad told The News that the varsity VC had taken notice of the incident and constituted a three-member committee to probe the matter and submit its report to the VC within three days to take action against the responsible persons. Nazim Baloch of Psychology Department, one of the victims, has appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan to take notice of the incident.MAN, SON ARRESTED: Cantonment police on Saturday arrested a man and his son on the charge of making a fake dacoity call.M Farooq, a resident of Hootwala, made a call on police helpline that four gangsters had looted his son Waseem Farooq near Sadiq Public School. They had also tortured him on resistance. When the police reached the spot, they found Waseem fastened with a rope in mysterious circumstances. Suspecting foul, the police arrested Farooq and his son on suspicion. During preliminary investigation, they told the police that they had hatched a conspiracy to trap their opponent Shahid. The police have registered a case.MURDER ACCUSED COMMITS SUICIDE: An under-trial murder accused committed suicide by hanging himself in Bakhshi Khana washroom on the premises of Bahawalnagar district courts on Saturday.The police brought accused Shamshad to the district courts from the district jail for hearing of his case. In the meantime, the accused went to a washroom where he committed suicide by hanging himself. According to a spokesman for the Bahawalnagar district police, the accused had apparently committed suicide. Meanwhile, a special team from Bahawalpur has reached Bahawalnagar to probe the incident.
